Little Skippers Nursery Safeguarding Policy
1. Introduction
Little Skippers Nursery is committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all children in our care. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, as well as the procedures and responsibilities in place to achieve this goal. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and all staff members, parents, and visitors to the nursery are expected to adhere to this policy.
2. Aims and Objectives
Our safeguarding policy aims to:

3. Legal Framework

4. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Little Skippers Nursery has appointed a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who is responsible for:

Coordinating safeguarding measures.

Being the first point of contact for staff, parents, and external agencies regarding safeguarding concerns.

Keeping up-to-date with safeguarding developments and attending relevant training.
The DSL for Little Skippers Nursery is Tedessa Phinn. In their absence, Izabela Younas will assume responsibility.
5. Training and Awareness
All staff members are required to undergo regular safeguarding training, and it is mandatory for new staff to complete training within their first three months of employment. This training will cover recognizing signs of abuse, reporting procedures, and understanding the nursery's safeguarding policy.
6. Recognizing and Responding to Concerns
Staff members are encouraged to be vigilant and to report any concerns they may have regarding a child's safety or well-being to the DSL or alternate DSL. Concerns may include, but are not limited to, signs of abuse, neglect, or changes in behavior.
7. Confidentiality
All concerns and reports will be treated confidentially, and information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis with appropriate authorities and agencies.
8. Communication with Parents
We are committed to working in partnership with parents. If a safeguarding concern is raised about a child in our care, we will endeavour to communicate openly and honestly with parents while respecting confidentiality and privacy.
9. Monitoring and Review
This safeguarding policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains up-to-date and effective. Any necessary revisions will be made based on changing legislation and best practices.
10. Reviewing Concerns and Incidents
All safeguarding concerns and incidents will be documented, reviewed, and evaluated to improve the effectiveness of our safeguarding policy.
This safeguarding policy is applicable from October 1st 2023. Parents, staff, and visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this policy, and a copy is available on our website and within the nursery.
